Telehealth Psychology Sessions
Life can get pretty hectic. Between work, family, study, and everything else that comes up, actually making it to an appointment can feel impossible. And if you live outside Sydney or in a regional area, travelling to a clinic might not even be an option.
That’s why I offer telehealth psychology sessions — so you can get professional support no matter where you are. All you need is a phone, tablet, or computer with internet, and a private spot where you feel comfortable talking.
What Telehealth Looks Like
A telehealth session is basically the same as seeing me in person, but online. We chat through a secure video call, talk about what’s been happening for you, and work on strategies that can actually help.
You don’t need to be good with technology — if you can click on a link, you’re set. Most people are surprised by how natural it feels after the first few minutes. Some even say they find it easier to open up when they’re at home in their own space.
Why People Like Telehealth
Here are some of the reasons my clients choose telehealth:
It’s flexible – You can book sessions around your schedule, without having to factor in travel time.
It’s accessible – If you live outside Sydney or in a regional area, you can still see a psychologist without having to drive hours.
It feels safe – Some people feel more comfortable talking from their own space, maybe even with their pet nearby.
It keeps things consistent – Life happens — illness, work trips, bad weather. Telehealth makes it easier to keep therapy on track.
And just so you know, research shows telehealth works just as well as in-person sessions for issues like anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma.
Who It’s Helpful For
A telehealth session runs for about 50 minutes, just like it would in the clinic.
We’ll start with a check-in and talk about how you’ve been.
Then we’ll work through the issues you want support with, using evidence-based approaches like CBT, ACT, or mindfulness techniques.
Towards the end, we’ll go over the key takeaways and look at practical things you can try between sessions.
It’s a calm, supportive space to talk openly and work on what matters to you.
Here are a few tips to make it easier:
Check in – We’ll start with a chat about how you’re going and what you want to focus on.
Find a quiet, private space where you won’t be interrupted.
Use headphones if you can — it helps with sound and privacy.
Have a notebook nearby if you like to jot things down.
Close any other apps or distractions on your device.
Give yourself a few minutes before and after to switch gears, just like you would if you were travelling to an appointment.
If you’re not confident with technology, don’t stress — I’ll walk you through it before your first session.
Getting Ready for Telehealth
Medicare and Rebates
If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate on telehealth sessions, which helps cover some of the cost. I’ll let you know what’s available for your situation and make the process as simple as possible.
When Telehealth Might Not Work
Telehealth isn’t always the right option. If there are big safety concerns, if your internet connection is unstable, or if you don’t have a private space to talk, in-person therapy may be better.
If that’s the case, we’ll talk about your options and find the approach that suits you best.
I know reaching out for help isn’t easy, and doing it online can feel strange at first. That’s why I work hard to make telehealth feel personal, safe, and supportive.
I’m a registered psychologist based in Sydney, with training in both in-person and online therapy.
Sessions are tailored to you — there’s no cookie-cutter approach here.
You can switch between online and in-person (if you’re in Sydney) depending on what works for you.
Privacy and confidentiality are always a priority.
My goal is simple: to give you a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported to make meaningful changes.
